Gotham West

Gotham West is a rental apartment complex at 550 West 45th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, developed and managed by the Gotham Organization. It fills a large site between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and includes both market-rate and affordable apartments, with the Gotham West Market food hall built into its base.

The complex is a few blocks from Hudson River Park, the greenway and the Intrepid Museum, with the Javits Center and Hudson Yards to the south and the Theater District to the east. The A, C and E trains at 42nd Street-Port Authority are the nearest subway, and Ninth Avenue’s long restaurant strip runs two blocks east of the building.

Completed in 2013 and designed by Handel Architects, Gotham West was one of the largest mixed-income developments built in Manhattan in its time, with more than half of the apartments across the complex set aside as income-restricted housing. The complex is made up of several connected buildings of different heights arranged around shared courtyard space.

Gotham West Market, the food hall on Eleventh Avenue, opened with the complex and was one of the first of the modern Manhattan food halls. Its stalls give residents and the surrounding blocks a range of dining that the far West Side lacked before the complex was built.
