Silver Towers

Silver Towers is a pair of rental apartment towers at 620 West 42nd Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, developed by Silverstein Properties. The twin glass towers stand side by side near the Hudson, at the far western end of 42nd Street, and share a landscaped deck and residents’ club between them.

Hudson River Park and the greenway are across Twelfth Avenue, with the Intrepid Museum at Pier 86 to the north and the Javits Center a few blocks south. The 7 train at 34th Street-Hudson Yards and the A, C and E at 42nd Street-Port Authority are the nearest subway service, and the Theater District and Times Square are a walk east.

Completed in 2009, the twin 60-story towers were designed by Costas Kondylis and Partners, one of the most prolific residential architects in Manhattan at the time. With 1,359 apartments between them, they are among the largest rental buildings on the West Side. A share of the apartments was built as income-restricted housing under the city’s 80/20 program, with the rest leased at market rents.

The shared base holds the residents’ club, and the upper floors look west over the Hudson to New Jersey and north along the river. River Place, Silverstein’s earlier rental tower next door at 650 West 42nd Street, completed in 2001, is under the same ownership, so the two are often compared when renters look at this corner of the far West Side.
