River Place

River Place is a rental apartment tower at 650 West 42nd Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, developed by Silverstein Properties. It occupies a large site at the far western end of 42nd Street, between Eleventh and Twelfth Avenues, on the block facing the Hudson.

Hudson River Park and the greenway are directly across Twelfth Avenue, with the Intrepid Museum at Pier 86 and the Circle Line terminal nearby, and the Javits Center is a few blocks south. The 7 train terminus at 34th Street-Hudson Yards is a walk south, the A, C and E at 42nd Street-Port Authority a walk east, and the Theater District and Hell’s Kitchen’s Ninth Avenue restaurants are within reach.

Completed in 2001, the 41-story tower holds 921 apartments, one of the largest new rental buildings of its era in Manhattan. It was the first of Silverstein Properties’ residential towers on this stretch of West 42nd Street, followed in 2009 by the twin Silver Towers next door.

When River Place opened, the far western end of 42nd Street was still a district of parking lots and warehouses. Today it is part of a dense cluster of large rental towers, including SKY across the street, with the Hudson Yards district a few blocks south.
