The Crest / 63 Wall Street

Brown Brothers Harriman, the private bank, built 63 Wall Street at the end of the 1920s as its headquarters, to a design by Delano & Aldrich. The 37-story brick and limestone tower steps back in tiers above Wall Street, and after the bank moved out it was converted to roughly 476 rental apartments and renamed The Crest, part of the wave of conversions that has made the Financial District one of the city’s fastest-growing residential neighborhoods.

As in other Wall Street conversions, the apartments take their shape from the original office floors, which can mean generous ceiling heights and unusual layouts. Upper floors on the eastern side look toward the East River and Brooklyn.

The building stands on Wall Street near Pearl Street, a few doors from the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Hall, with the Stone Street restaurant lane, the South Street Seaport and the East River esplanade within a couple of blocks. The Wall Street 2, 3, 4 and 5 stations are at the corner, and the Fulton Center and Battery Park are each a short walk away.
