Hunters Point is Long Island City’s waterfront. Its rental towers line Center Boulevard and the streets south of it, facing Midtown Manhattan across the East River. The skyline view, taking in the United Nations, the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building, is the main reason people move here, and Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunters Point South Park run along the shore below the buildings.
The area was built in two phases. Queens West, the state-led redevelopment of old rail yards and industrial land, produced the first towers: Avalon Riverview in 2002, then 4720 Center Boulevard, 47-05 Center Boulevard and Avalon Riverview North between 2006 and 2007, and 4540, 4545 and 4610 Center Boulevard by 2014. Hunters Point South, the city-led project further south, followed. Gotham Point, completed in 2022 with 1,132 apartments over 57 floors, is the largest building in the neighborhood, and 5203 Center Boulevard and 2-20 Malt Drive came after it.
